Jungle Rhythms 'GREEN SCHOOL' Award 2019 goes to "Diring Bagisha Prathamik Vidyalaya'!
Diring Bagisha Prathamik Vidyalaya has been key in inculcating the love for nature among the students and have adopted a 'play way' method towards learning science and biology. Most of the students who study here are from the tea picker community who live a life very close to nature. They have installed bird boxes for nesting which have been gladly adopted by the resident birds. They have also put bird bowls for drinking water from a rain harvested water source. Their organic flower garden and their fruit tree garden is a work of great gardening solely managed by the little children mentored by the teachers. Their school is a 'Tobacco Free Zone'.
This school also adopted an unique initiative of cultivating wild elephant grass which they have donated as fodder for the wildlife in distress and rescued animals during the floods of 2019.
Their school has a theme of a nature lover adorned with paintings of nature.
Jungle Rhythms Lifetime Achievement Award 2019 - Padma Shri Jadab Payeng
Jungle Rhythms is privileged to award the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award to honourable Padma Shree Jadab Payeng, popularly known as 'The forest man of India' who have created a forest by planting trees for the last 35years. His forest now host mega fauna like elephants, tigers, deers and other biodiversity which has migrated permanently and made his forest their home. His work has been appreciated by India with the fourth highest civilian award - The Padma Shree and many other awards.
I have always believed that local communities play a major role in the conservation initiatives of any wild landscapes. Tribals have traditionally protected our forests and safeguarded against evil eyes. Here, in this delicate and fragile habitat where floods dominate wildlife movement in the landscape, the Karbi-Anglong tribes too join hands with the forest department towards protecting the wildlife that resides in the deep jungles of the mountain slopes.
Jungle Rhythms was privileged to also felicitate - Rameswar Singnar of Angle Pothar, Karbi-Anglong to grace the Jungle Rhythms Awards 2019. His village is working actively towards wildlife conservation and protection.
